Care Instructions

1. Majlis Sofa — Fabric Upholstery

Daily & Weekly Care
Vacuum regularly using a soft brush or upholstery attachment to remove dust and loose debris.
Fluff and rotate seat and back cushions weekly to maintain even foam support and prevent permanent compression.
Avoid sitting on armrests or standing on cushions, as this places uneven stress on the foam and frame.

Spills & Stains
Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth. Do not rub, as this pushes liquid deeper into the foam and spreads the stain.
For waterbased stains, use a mild soap solution and a soft cloth, working from the outside of the stain inwards.
Test any cleaning solution on a hidden area (e.g. underside of a cushion) before applying it to a visible surface.
Do not saturate the fabric with water. Excess moisture can seep into the foam and cause mildew or a lingering odour.

General Cleaning
Engage a professional upholstery cleaning service at least once a year, or more frequently in highuse settings.
Camel Caravan offers this service. See details below.
Keep the sofa out of direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent fading and premature weakening of the fabric fibres.

Environment
Ensure adequate ventilation in the room, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia’s humid climate, to prevent moisture buildup within the foam.
Avoid placing the sofa directly beneath airconditioning vents, as constant airflow can dry and crack the fabric over time.
Keep away from sharp objects, pins, or rough fabrics (e.g. denim) that may snag or tear the upholstery.
Note: If the sofa is used in a mosque or community hall setting with high foot traffic, more frequent vacuuming and an annual professional clean are recommended to preserve both appearance and hygiene.

Wash Instructions (Removable Covers)
Unzip and remove covers carefully from the foam insert. Close all zips before washing to prevent snagging.
Hand wash or use a gentle/delicate machine cycle in cold water (30°C or below).
Use a mild detergent only. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, as these can weaken fibres and dull the colour.
Do not wring or twist the cover. Press out excess water gently instead.
Dripdry in the shade, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not tumble dry, as heat can shrink the cover and prevent it from fitting the foam insert properly.
Refit the cover onto the foam insert only once it is completely dry, to prevent moisture from being trapped inside the foam.

2. Mashrabiya & Mihrab Panels — PVC Panel

Routine Dusting
Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth to prevent buildup in the carved or lattice details.
PVC surfaces can attract dust through static; a slightly damp (not wet) microfiber cloth will lift dust more effectively than a dry one.
For intricate lattice sections, use a softbristled brush or a lowsuction vacuum brush attachment to reach into recesses.

Cleaning
Wipe with a damp cloth and a mild soap or detergent solution. PVC is waterresistant, so normal damp wiping will not damage the panel.
Dry with a clean cloth after cleaning to avoid water spotting or streaking on the surface.
Do not use solventbased cleaners, thinners, acetone, or alcoholbased products these will dissolve, soften, or dull the PVC surface.
Avoid abrasive scrubbers or scouring pads, which can scratch the surface finish.

Environment & Placement
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. UV exposure over time can cause PVC to discolour, become brittle, or fade in colour.
Keep away from direct heat sources (e.g. spotlights, heaters, or airconditioning units blowing directly onto the panel). PVC will soften and can warp or deform if exposed to sustained high heat.
PVC panels tolerate humidity well and will not swell or rot like timberbased materials, making them well suited to Singapore and Malaysia’s climate.

Handling & Maintenance
Handle with care during cleaning or relocation; lattice and carved sections are decorative and thinner areas can crack or snap under repeated bending or impact.
Check mounting brackets and fixings periodically to ensure the panel remains securely and evenly supported, without undue stress on any single point.
Should any crack, chip, or breakage occur, discontinue further handling of that area and arrange for inspection/repair, as stress fractures can spread over time.
Note: Mihrab and mashrabiya panels installed in mosque settings are often positioned near entrances or windows. Extra attention to sun and heat exposure at these locations will help preserve the panel’s colour and finish.
